I’ve been a fan of Laufey since her very first album, Everything I Know About Love. When Bewitched came out, I fell in love with that record, too. Laufey has always held a special place in my heart because I’ve always loved jazz, and she has a way of blending it with classical, bossa nova, and modern themes in a way that feels fresh yet timeless.
Now that she’s become more of a mainstream artist, it’s even more exciting to see her carry those influences into a wider space. So when A Matter of Time was announced, I was insanely excited. And now that it’s here, I’ve had it on repeat.
My Ranking of the Songs
Here’s how I feel about the tracks so far:
- Mr. Eclectic — Absolutely obsessed with her execution of bossa nova here. It’s so smooth and captivating.
- Clean Air — Refreshing and airy, with production that feels new while still perfectly on theme.
- Clockwork — A gorgeous showcase of Laufey’s vocals.
- Silver Lining — Such a sweet and charming love song.
- Tough Luck — The bridge is so catchy and fun.
- Lover Girl
- Carousel
- Forget-Me-Not
- Castle in Hollywood
- Snow White
- Too Little, Too Late
- Cuckoo Ballet – Interlude
- Sabotage
- A Cautionary Tale
My Honest Take
I’d give A Matter of Time an 8.7/10. It’s genuinely hard to decide if I love this album more than Bewitched, right now, I’m leaning slightly toward Bewitched because of how special that record felt to me, but my opinion could shift with time.
What makes A Matter of Time so exciting is how strong the top five tracks are for me. They already feel like staples in Laufey’s discography, and I know my connection to the rest of the album will only deepen with more listens. And since we’ll likely get a deluxe version eventually, I’m already looking forward to what’s next.
Final Thoughts
Laufey continues to impress me with her ability to take genres I already love, jazz, bossa nova, classical, and breathe something new into them. A Matter of Time shows her growth as an artist, while still holding on to the softness and charm that made me fall in love with her music in the first place.
Whether you’ve been following Laufey since the beginning or you’re just discovering her, this album is absolutely worth the listen. It’s heartfelt, timeless, and proof that she’s only getting better.
