How Reading 20 Pages a Day Changed the Way I Consume Media

At the beginning of this year, I made a decision.
A small one, really.
I decided to start reading just 20 pages a day.

Why I Started

I used to love reading when I was younger. But somewhere along the way, I lost touch with it, buried under the noise of social media, constant scrolling, and the never-ending pull of screens.

But when I pictured my future self, living a slower, more intentional life, I saw myself reading. Sitting in the quiet of a calm morning with a book in hand.

The thing is…
I kept pushing that version of myself into “someday.”
Waiting for the perfect morning.
The perfect mood.
The perfect time.

But nothing just happens.
We have to build the life we imagine.

So instead of waiting, I decided to make the habit part of my life now, before I felt ready.

What I Learned from 20 Pages a Day

I haven’t missed a single day since.

And it’s done more than reconnect me with stories.
It’s taught me that slowing down is powerful.

Books have become a new kind of media for me.
A quieter kind.
One that’s always waiting for me when I’m stressed or need something to unwind with that isn’t just more screen time.

It doesn’t matter when I read, sometimes it’s in the morning, sometimes on a break, but more often than not…
I find myself reading before bed.

And let me tell you, reading in the dark with my phone’s flashlight blinding me is not the vibe.

So if you’re like me and find yourself wanting to read in a cozy, low-light space, I highly recommend grabbing a clip-on reading light, that's the link to the one I use.

Want Book Recommendations?

If you’re curious about what I’ve read so far, or you’re looking for your next read, I’ve got you covered.

I’ve created a Reading & Reflection blog, where I share:

  • A quick plot summary (no spoilers)
  • My honest rating
  • What I liked (or didn’t)
  • The genre, vibe, and who I’d recommend it for

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever imagined a slower, more intentional version of your life,
Stop waiting to “become” that person.

Start now.
Start small.
Even if it’s just 20 pages a day.

Because one day, you’ll look back and realize…
You already are that person.
