The Jasmine Throne is a book I had been circling for a while. I’d seen it pop up on Amazon recommendations, noticed the beautiful cover more than once, but always ended up picking something else. Eventually, I caved, and I’m glad I did. I didn’t even finish this one before buying the rest of the series. That’s how quickly it pulled me in.

A Different Kind of Fantasy

This isn’t the usual knights, castles, and dragons type of fantasy. Tasha Suri builds something different, a world full of unique powers and haunting concepts I haven’t come across in other novels. The ideas of the rot and the temple children stood out the most to me. They’re both fascinating on their own, but what really has me hooked is wondering how they will eventually connect.

Priya, the main character, has abilities that feel both mysterious and powerful. She’s written as someone gifted, but also honest and humble, which makes her easy to root for.

Characters That Stay With You

Another highlight for me was Princess Malini. While she came across as harsh at times, I liked seeing how her dynamic with Priya played out. She expected control, but Priya isn’t as easy to bend as she thought.

Bhumika also quickly became a character I enjoyed. Each of them feels layered, and I’m excited to see how their roles grow in the series.

My Honest Take

Reading this book felt like stepping into the very beginning of something big. In many ways, it felt like a long prelude, setting the stage for the story that’s still to come. There’s a lot of uncertainty, and I can tell the next books will really start to expand on what’s been hinted at here.

I’d rate The Jasmine Throne a 7.1/10. Not because it wasn’t good, it definitely was, but because there isn’t quite enough to go off of yet. The foundation is strong, and I’m looking forward to where it goes from here.

Final Thoughts

For me, The Jasmine Throne is more of a promise than a payoff. It lays down a world that feels original, characters that feel complex, and powers that feel exciting. Now it’s just a matter of seeing where the story leads.
